Vulcan Materials Acquires Quarries in North Carolina and Illinois.

: VMC See VESA Media Channel. ) announced today that it has purchased the Burke County Stone Quarry in North Carolina and the Avery Gravel Company Quarry in Illinois. Terms of the transactions were not disclosed.

The Burke County Quarry is near the town of Morganton in western North Carolina Western North Carolina (often abbreviated as WNC) is the region of North Carolina which includes the Appalachian Mountains, thus it is often known geographically as the state's Mountain Region. . The Avery facility is in Kendall County, Illinois Kendall County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. As of 2000, the population was 54,544. According to Census Bureau statistics released in March 2007, its 2006 estimated population of 88,158 makes it the second-fastest growing county in the United States between the , approximately 50 miles west of downtown Chicago. The quarries will become part of Vulcan's Mideast and Midwest Divisions, respectively.

Vulcan's Chairman and CEO, Don James said, "These two new quarries add approximately 140 million tons of zoned and permitted reserves. The Burke County Quarry will allow us to serve our customers in western North Carolina more efficiently. The Avery Quarry expands our Midwest Division's geographic presence in the very attractive suburban market of western Chicago."
