Volvo honoured for safety ideas.

VOLVO'S stylish Safety Concept Car (SCC) has won Autocar magazine's Design Award in the Autocar Awards 2001, plus the Vehicle and Passenger Safety Award in this year's Prince Michael Road Safety Awards.

The SCC is a dynamic coupe with a great design;

revolutionary see-through A-pillars for superior vision, and state-of-the-art technology for improved driving and pedestrian safety and clearly demonstrates Volvo is at the cutting edge of safety developments and modern design.

There's a dedicated website for the SCC and the other Volvo concept cars which gives the opportunity for feedback and on-line discussions directly with some of Volvo's senior designers and engineers:

In its annual tribute to the achievements of the car industry, Autocar magazine gave its Design Award in the Autocar awards 2001 to the Volvo SCC, beating the concept car designs of the VW Microbus, Nissan Z-car and Seat Tango.

Autocar said: "The SCC is a thought-provoking and attractive piece of design, " and went on to describe it as, "an aesthetic triumph" and, "a working prototype that demonstrates a number of ground-breaking new safety ideas."

The Volvo SCC also won the Vehicle Driver and Passenger Award and the judges said the SCC's safety features, "put Volvo at the cutting edge of advanced technology in the interests of safer driving, enhanced personal security and improved passive safety for other road users."
