Voluntary Limited Recall of ORTHO DIAZINON PLUS INSECT SPRAY.
The recalled product comes in green plastic, one-pint containers with the following lot codes: A31246M; A21276M and A31276M, stamped in black ink on the back of the container below the label. The UPC number for the recalled product is 01761G.
DIAZINON PLUS is a concentrated insecticide that, when mixed with water in a hose-end or tank sprayer, is used outdoors to control bugs on flowers, shrubs, fruits, vegetables and lawns.
The recalled product lacks an emulsifier ingredient in the formula that enables the product to mix thoroughly with water when diluted. The recalled product visibly separates from water when mixed, and may result in an uneven application. As a result, the spray may not be effective in controlling insects.
If recalled product is applied on fruits and vegetables it could possibly leave a residue higher than allowable federal limits. Consumption of unwashed fruits and vegetables with residue levels that exceed federal limits could possibly lead to temporary effects, such as headaches and nausea. The company has received no reports of any consumer health inquiries or exposures.
The recalled product was limited to one production run. It is believed that the emulsifier was omitted due to human error. The company has already located and removed one third of the recalled product through wholesale trade channels.
Consumers who think they may have the recalled product are asked to call the ORTHO Consumer Helpline at 800/225-2883. The Solaris Group will arrange for product return and refunds.
The Solaris Group regrets any inconvenience to its customers. The Solaris Group is a unit of Monsanto Company.
