Volcano Vacation Guide

If you have ever considered a tropical vacation, a trip to a volcano might be a fun activity to include in your list of things to do. It is an activity that is quite educational and is perfect for couples and families alike. Many places offer helicopter tours of islands, but you can also pay a guide to take you hiking to the summit.

1. Stromboli

As one of the most active volcanoes in the world, Stromboli is a small island off the coast of Italy. As part of the famous Aeolian Islands it is part of the Mediterranean Sea. Also, believe it or not but an enchanting small town has sprung up at its base, giving travelers the opportunity to stay overnight. Guided tours to the top of Stromboli are offered to the thrill seeker.

2. Santorini

A volcano that is one of the Greek islands, it is in close proximity to the islands of Thirasia and Apronnisi. Access to the top of the volcano may be gained via a gondola trip or a donkey ride. In addition to visiting this still moderately active volcano on Santorini, other points of interest include the famous black beaches of Kamari.

3. Halemaumau

A huge crater at the summit of Hawaii''s main island, this is the supposed home of the volcano goddess Pele. Kilauea is a part of "Hawaii Volcanoes National Park", and allows for adventurers of all varieties to enjoy an unforgettable stay. Armchair travelers and seasoned hikers alike will enjoy the numerous outlook platforms as well as the more than 150 miles of trails, many of that are wheelchair accessible. This isn''t your average volcano - there are tropical forests everywhere.

4. Shiprock Peak

Travelers who wish to avoid the sulfur fumes of active volcanoes will be heartened by a trip to Shiprock Peak, an extinct volcano located in New Mexico. The volcano is located on top of an ancient Navajo Indian burial ground and is said to be haunted. You must obtain permission to climb Shiprock to its peak.
