Voith receives several orders.

Voith Paper, Heidenheim, Germany, received an order from Kappa Zulpich Papier GmbH for the optimization of PM6 in Zulpich, Germany. Voith originally supplied the machine with a 5650 mm wire width in 1996. It produces 1080 tons per day of test liner and corrugating medium from 100% recycled furnish in a basis weight range of 95-160 g/[m.sup.2]. Zulpich plans to increase its speed to 1200 meters per minute from 1050 meters per minute. The rebuild will include increasing drainage capacity, stabilizing the web run with the installation of DuoFoil boxes in key areas of the pre- and after-dryer sections, improving CD moisture profile, optimizing the drying efficiency through use of S-stabilizers and ventilating ventilating

Voith will do all installation work.

Another order is that of Wuxi Long Chen Paper, a Chinese subsidiary of the Taiwanese Long Chen Paper Group. This organization ordered approach flow screens from Voith for their new paper machine in Wuxi, Jiangsu, China. The new machine for which the complete stock preparation system has already been placed with Voith should produce 450 tons per day of test liner and fluting fluting

Voith Paper is working to optimize PM9 further at Sociedad Anonima Industrias Celulosa Aragonesa (SAICA SAICA South African Institute of Chartered Accountants ) in Spain. The objective of this agreement is to increase the production capacity over a defined time by improving runnability and significantly increasing the operating speed The operating speed of a road is the speed at which motor vehicles generally operate on that road.

The precise definition of "operating speed", however, is open to debate.
beyond the original maximum operating speed. Currently the machine has an operating speed of 1200 meters per minute. The unit is already the world's top performing machine for packaging papers. Once the upgrade is complete, the machine will operate at 150 meters per minute. Its wire width is 8100 mm, and it produces corrugating medium in a basis weight range of 75-110 g/[m.sup.2].

Voith Paper received an order from Store Enso Maxau GmbH & Co KG for a rebuild and modernization of the number 6 Paper Machine at Maxau. The order valued at EUR EUR

120 million (US$ 128.4 million) is the fifth production line for SC paper ordered since 1998 in Europe and America--all placed with Voith. The total capacity of all installations is 1,160,000 tons per year. The almost completely new production line will be in the existing building. It replaces the existing number 6 Paper Machine that has a capacity of 140,000 tons per year supplied by Voith 35 years ago. The new machine will have a production capacity of 260,000 tons per year and allow production to increase to 280,000 tons per year depending on the future development of the mill. The main furnish for the SC paper will be deinked pulp and bleached groundwood. The unit will produce SC-B papers in a basis weight range of 45-56 g/[m.sup.2] on the 8100-mm-wide machine that has a design speed of 2000 meters per minute.

The company plans to extend its capacities in this field to satisfy rapidly and reliably the great demand for high-quality drilled suction roll shells and complete suction rolls in the future. In addition, this investment will agree with the company's current trend of increasingly wider paper and board machines. This gun-drilling machine will also allow efficient drilling of suction roll shells exceeding 11 m length and 2 m diameter. Estimated total capital expenditure is Euro 5.5 million (US$ 5.9 million). Plans are for three-shift operation to begin in June 2004.
