Voith Paper GmbH, Krefeld, Germany, announced several recent accomplishments:

* In late July 2003, Shandong Bohui Papermaking Group, China, with Voith successfully started up Board Machine Number 1. This is a very large board machine for white lined chipboard. The machine produces high-quality white-coated board from 100% virgin fiber furnish (pulp and BCTMP) or up to 100% recycled furnish. The design speed is 600 m/min. With a wire width of 6230 mm, the machine is the largest machine worldwide for white lined chipboard from recycled furnish.

* Shandong Huatai Paper, China, began operation for the production of newsprint on PM 10 four weeks earlier than originally planned by Huatai Group and Voith Paper. The machine is at the Shandong Huatai mill, Dawang, Shandong, China. Start-up concluded with the production of the first eight break-free consecutive jumbo rolls with a diameter of more than 3100 mm. The start-up speed was 1408 m/min.

* Papierfabrik August Koehler AG has ordered a new DF coater for Coating Machine 7 at its Oberkirch mill. This machine produces carbonless copying papers and has a trim width of 3750 mm. The new DF coater will go into operation in January 2004. It will replace a roll applicator of an older generation. The rebuild will enhance paper quality and production capacity. Koehler has already put two DF coaters very successfully on stream at its Kehl mill.

* Voith reports a problem-free deinking plant start-up in July at Paper Corea, previously Sepoong Corp., Kunsan, Korea. With a capacity of 400 tons/day, the new deinking plant handles ONP and OMG for newsprint production. It was launched under Voith Paper's overall supervision.

* Thai Kraft's Wangsala, Thailand, has found that installation of Voith's C-bar technology consisting of Multi-Foil rotor and C-bar basket can increase the removal of stickies by over 50%. Simultaneously, energy consumption dropped as much as 50% due to a reduction in required rotor speed. In addition, the reduced rotor speed and its special blade profiling for optimized flow conditions had a positive effect on sheet formation. The mill produces single-ply kraft liner on its PM 4 and three-ply kraft liner on PMs 5, 6, and 7. In February 2002, Thai Kraft carried out extensive tests in cooperation with Voith to enhance approach flow screening efficiency and thereby improve end product quality and paper machine runnability.
