Voice Pilot has successful "Take Off!".

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 1996--

Computer mouse and keyboard replaced by speech

Voice Pilot Technologies Inc. ("VPT VPT VEN (Variable Exhaust Nozzle) Position Transmitter
VPT Virtual Phones Technology (Sony)
VPT Virtual Procedure Trainer (Aeroism trademark)
VPT Variational Perturbation Theory
"), a Miami-based software company, Tuesday declared the keyboard and mouse obsolete, with the arrival of computer hands-free technology.

Using the base technology of IBM's VoiceType engine, together with Windows 95 operating system operating system (OS)

Software that controls the operation of a computer, directs the input and output of data, keeps track of files, and controls the processing of computer programs.
, VPT has determined that PC-based computer applications can now be run totally hands-free. No longer does the user need a keyboard or mouse.

With the release of the updated and expanded Version 3.0 of its technically acclaimed Voice Pilot for Windows 95, providing a set of usable desktop tools that demonstrate the power of speech-aware computing, Voice Pilot will be operated completely by voice command.

Once the Voice Manager is activated, neither keyboard nor mouse is needed for ANY function of Voice Pilot, and all commands and control, text entry, number entry and free-form dictation are performed completely by voice command (for those still addicted to keyboard and mouse, data can be entered the "old-fashioned" way).

Voice Pilot, which has been demonstrated on the nationally syndicated Computer Chronicles The Computer Chronicles is a US television series, broadcast during 1981-2002, which documented the rise of the personal computer from its infancy to the immense market at the turn of the century.  television series (Show No. 1223), contains the following easy-to-use modules:

1. Calendar. This module allows users to plan and schedule any date- and time-dependent activities. It supplies date, time and free-form descriptive data fields, all of which can be filled in with voice commands.

2. To-Do List. This module allows users to schedule and plan all date-dependent events. It provides start dates, due dates, priority sorting and event and conclusion free-form descriptive data fields, all of which can be completed using only voice commands.

3. Address Book. This is a complete business and personal address book/contact manager. It includes all information needed to add, edit, find or recall a person or company that users wish to contact, including all relevant contact information. It also includes a free-form dictation field for customization as a business/personal contact manager. Naturally, all data entry can be completed using only voice commands.

4. Memo Pad memo pad nbloc m de notas

. With this module, users can dictate free-form (up to approximately 10,000 words), which is automatically configured into memorandum format. With simple voice commands, the user can direct that the memo be either printed or saved for later editing or transmission.

5. Notepad The text editor that comes with Windows. It is a very elementary utility, but gets the job done most of the time. See text editor and WordPad.

. This module was designed as an electronic "Post-It" notepad system for random notes for the user. However, because of the power of Voice Pilot, the user can dictate free-form text Words and sentences, such as input to a word processor or text editor. Since text is already free form, the term is redundant, but is used to emphasize its unstructured nature. See free-form database.  in excess of 10,000 words, which can be saved to disk by voice command. Once saved, the text is in ASCII ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange, a set of codes used to represent letters, numbers, a few symbols, and control characters. Originally designed for teletype operations, it has found wide application in computers.  format, and can be retrieved by most standard word processors for final editing and transmission.

Voice Pilot's Version 3.0 is the world's first PC-based application that is totally speech-aware, hands-free and able to perform any function without a keyboard or a mouse. With the release of the Windows 95 version of the VoiceType engine, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  is giving the computing world the first generation of a truly human-centered operating system.

Just as important, however, VPT is presenting the world, for the first time, proof that speech recognition is ready for real-world PC applications.

"Speech is a natural computer interface and is destined des·tine

, Voice Pilot creator and chief technology officer of VPT. "Once people discover the true power of human-centered computing, with speech as the central component, speech recognition will spread as quickly as Internet technology," said Grant.

"In fact, speech-recognition technology will eventually be incorporated in some way into virtually all existing operating systems Operating systems can be categorized by technology, ownership, licensing, working state, usage, and by many other characteristics. Since its objective is to be known as "The Voice Technology People," VPT has committed itself to development of speech- recognition technologies and applications on all platforms that will support speech technology. In this regard, VPT announced the general availability of Voice Pilot for OS/2, Version 3.0, on Sept. 25, 1996.

This product works in concern with the VoiceType engine bundled with OS/2 Warp 4. In addition, VPT is continuing work on refining its SpokenDoc technology for the OpenDoc environment.

VPT, the innovators, are creating their own speech-aware software technologies and applications, while at the same time are actively involved in producing speech-enabled and speech-aware interfaces for other software developers.

VPT has the technical ability to speech-enable or speech-aware virtually any Windows 95, OS/2 or Windows application, and in many cases will work on a royalty basis.

Voice Pilot Technologies is a pioneer in PC-based speech- recognition technology, and has worked closely with IBM to develop applications to fully implement the power of the VoiceType engine.
