Vodafone Completes Acquisition of New Zealand GSM Network.

, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1998--Vodafone Group Plc announces that the transaction for the purchase of the national New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  GSM cellular network and related assets operated by BellSouth New Zealand (a partnership of BellSouth and Singapore Technologies) and the whole of the issued capital of BellSouth New Zealand Limited, the owner of the relevant radio communications rights and licenses from BSNZ BSNZ Blind Sport New Zealand, Inc.  Wireless Holdings Inc. and ST Telecommunications Pte Limited, was completed on Oct. 30, 1998 for NZ$750 million.

Commenting on the announcement, Chris Gent Sir Christopher Gent (Beckenham, Kent, May 10, 1948) is the former chief executive officer of Vodafone, a British cell-phone company. After retiring in July 2003, he was awarded the honorary title of Company's President for Life on his departure as a mark of his achievement in , the chief executive of Vodafone Group Plc said: "We are delighted to have completed the acquisition of the New Zealand network and we look forward to developing the business."
