VocalTec Expands Class 5 Functionality with Addition of Megaco Line Side Signaling Protocol.


HERZLIYA, Israel -- Further Broadens Carriers' Ability to Migrate Legacy to Next Generation Networks

VocalTec Communications Ltd. Next generation Class 5 softswitches are at the heart of the migration of circuit to packet technology, due to the new services they provide, and the reduced entry level costs. The addition of the Megaco line side protocol facilitates a rapid, painless migration, offering carriers the option to keep existing consumer telephone connections and Digital Loop Carriers In telephone communications, a technology that increases the number of channels in the local loop by converting analog signals to digital and multiplexing them back to the end office.  (DLC's) which concentrate these connections, unchanged.

The Megaco line side protocol is incorporated into VocalTec's Essentra BAX, and VocalTec's technological partners provide Megaco/GR303/V5.2 access gateways. Together this enables carriers who plan to migrate existing networks by adding softswitch capabilities at the core, to leverage their existing installed base of GR-303-based DLCs in the USA and V5.2-based DLCs in Europe, Africa and Asia.
