VocalData, Inc., an application developer of hosted IP telephony solutions, today announced that TELUS, the largest telecommunications company in Western Canada and the second largest in the country, signed a multimillion dollar contract with VocalData. TELUS is using the VocalData application server to support the carrier's IP-One(TM) hosted PBX service, which was recently launched as the first carrier-grade hosted and managed IP telephony service in Canada. TELUS commercially launched the service, which has already been running in production for more than a year and has already handled more than 1 million calls, in mid-November.

At TELUS' official launch of the IP-One service, TELUS and one of its first customers, Borland Canada, praised the reliability, high voice quality and user-friendliness of the IP-One service, all of which are highly dependent on the quality of the IP telephony server. Not only does VocalData's IP telephony application server provide TELUS and its customers with superior reliability and quality, it also provides them with greater flexibility in that it supports a greater number of applications and can be used with more IP phones than any other IP telephony application server on the market today, thus making VoIP highly affordable for businesses of all sizes.

The advanced features and capabilities offered by IP-One include on-demand conferencing, click-to-dial calling, find-me/follow-me calling and visual voice mail to business customers in Ontario and Quebec today. Using the new service, customers can easily access telephony services from anywhere via a highly intuitive online Web portal. They can also use this Web portal to support never-before-possible applications such as the archiving of voice mail messages.

The superior user-friendliness of VocalData's hosted IP telephony applications, which support many of the features offered by the IP-One service, has already been tested and confirmed by IP-One users. According to John Seliga, vice president of IP solutions at TELUS, while traditional PBX users adopt only 10 percent of the features found in a traditional PBX, the average TELUS IP-One subscriber began using 50 percent of the myriad features offered by the IP-One hosted telephony service within weeks of being introduced to the service.
