Vivaldi: The Four Seasons. Andrew Lawrence-King, the Harp Consort; Gottfried von der Goltz, Freiburger Barockorchester. Deutsche Harmonia Mundi 05472-77384-2.

Vivaldi: The Four Seasons. Andrew Lawrence-King Andrew Lawrence-King (born in Guernsey September 3, 1959) is a harpist and early music specialist, and is currently the director of The Harp Consort. He also is also a conductor who directs from one of several continuo instruments, including harp, organ, harpsichord & psaltery , the Harp Consort; Gottfried von der Goltz Gottfried (Graf) von der Goltz (born 1 June 1964 in Würzburg, Germany) is a German-Norwegian violinist and conductor, specialising in the baroque repertoire. His first teachers were his parents, Georg Conrad von der Goltz and Kirsti Hjort. , Freiburger Barockorchester. Deutsche Harmonia Mundi 05472-77384-2.

The gimmick here is integrating the Harp Consort with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, all playing on period instruments, to create a unique new vision of an old standby. I must say the partnership works well, as it apparently did in Vivaldi's own day, such combinations apparently being commonplace. The sound is brightly lit and sufficiently detailed but without much sense of location or ambience. The performance itself is standard fare; the approach exhilarating. Something I didn't like, though, was DHM's discontinuance Cessation; ending; giving up. The discontinuance of a lawsuit, also known as a dismissal or a non-suit, is the voluntary or involuntary termination of an action.

DISCONTINUANCE, pleading. A chasm or interruption in the pleading.
