Vital announces new version of CRiSP, multiplatform GUI file editor.


PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 12, 1995--Vital Inc. Tuesday demonstrated a new version of CRiSP 4.2, the only graphical file editor for both X and Windows platforms.

The new release incorporates several major new enhancements. In addition, the product's user interface has received its first major facelift, and has been tuned for Windows 95.

Some of the new features include:

-- Complete encapsulation (1) In object technology, the creation of self-contained modules that contain both the data and the processing. See object-oriented programming.

(2) The transmission of one network protocol within another.

-- Integrated support for IPC (1) (InterProcess Communication) The exchange of data between one program and another either within the same computer or over a network. It implies a protocol that guarantees a response to a request. , Named Pipes An IPC facility in LAN Manager that allows data to be exchanged from one application to another either over a network or running within the same computer. The use of the term pipes for interprocess communication was coined in Unix. , Message passing with external 3rd party applications.

-- Personalized toolbars/tool icons.

-- Brand new GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface.  Mail interface.

-- Recallable Named Projects, and keyboard macros.

-- 64 bit compatibility across all platforms.

-- Support for unlimited file/column sizes with dynamic memory models.
