Vital Inc. announces cross-platform Web agent -- Trudger; Builds personalized intranets for off-line perusal.PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 1996--Vital Inc. raised the bar for off-line Web browsing with the introduction of Trudger, a dynamic multi-platform Internet Web agent that makes Web surfing possible without a live connection. A preview version can be downloaded from Vital's Web site for multiple UNIX UNIX Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics). and Windows platforms. Trudger allows users to build personalized intranet by downloading Web pages, graphics, text and IITML links of interest. Users can monitor Web sites of interest, as Trudger brings back all updates automatically. Users can configure Trudger to control the type of content/files to download, number of links to traverse, Web sites to avoid, time to spend downloading, amount of disk space to use, etc. Trudger uses asynchronous Refers to events that are not synchronized, or coordinated, in time. The following are considered asynchronous operations. The interval between transmitting A and B is not the same as between B and C. It maximizes transfer rates by parallelizing To generate instructions for a parallel processing computer. the download of related links. Users can specify how many links to download in parallel, and even adjust the transfer rate whilst it is in operation. Users can also dynamically redirect Trudger's Web traversal route by pausing an in progress download and then deleting the links/pages they do not want to download. Unlike other Web agents, Trudger is designed to be multi-platform. It does not need a Web browser to perform its function, however can communicate with one to display the downloaded pages. Trudger's powerful site folders makes efficient disk space management possible. Software upgrades for Trudger are quick, and platform independent. According to President Paul Fox, "Trudger takes away the trudgery associated with Web browsing." Trudger is currently available on Microsoft Windows 95, NT, Unixware, Sun Solaris/Sun OS (Sparc, Intel), HP/UX HP/UX Hewlett-Packard UNIX operating system HP/UX Unexploded Human Particulate Operating System , IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company.
