VisionShape Introduces CS-500 Family of Check and Small Document Scanners.

PLACENTIA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 27, 1999--

VisionShape, a leader in document scanners An optical scanner geared to office documents rather than photographs. Also called "office scanners," "enterprise scanners" and "business scanners," desktop models have automatic document feeders that can scan in the range of approximately 15 to 100 pages per minute. , today introduced a new line of desk-top check and small document scanners. These are based on the popular BUIC BUIC Bangkok University International College

1500 check scanner but have been adapted by VisionShape to support a broader range of document types and applications.

The CS-500 series consists of three desktop production scanners.

The CS-500 is a desktop duplex check scanner designed for financial transaction applications in banks, credit unions, remittance processing centers and casinos. Apart from standard retail banking, suitable applications include tax collection, travelers checks and many others. The scanner provides simultaneous image capture from both sides of the document with the capture of the magnetically encoded MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) The machine recognition of numeric data printed with magnetically charged ink. It is used on bank checks and deposit slips. MICR readers detect the characters and convert them into digital data.  data line that is printed at the bottom of all checks. The CS-500 supports both the CMC-7 MICR code popular in Europe and South America South America, fourth largest continent (1991 est. pop. 299,150,000), c.6,880,000 sq mi (17,819,000 sq km), the southern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  and the E13-B fonts used in the US and UK.

The CS-500 can scan up to 60 checks or 120 images per minute and includes MICR data line recognition; a built-in automatic feeder for 200 checks. Options for programmable printing on the back of the check and/or endorsement with a stamp on the front of the check are also available.

The CS-500-10 and CS-500-20 models are smaller desktop check and small document scanners which do not include MICR reading. The simple transport allows these models to handle a whole range of small documents such as vouchers, coupons and credit cards slips. Both models scan at a rate of 60 documents per minute. The 500-10 scans both sides in one pass while the 500-20 scans one side of the document.

Both the CS-500-10 and 500-20 are also ideal as the scanners for automated data collection or forms processing of these smaller documents, due to the excellent skew-less transport. A key feature is the exit tray of these models, which is designed to accommodate documents longer and thicker than checks.

All the models interface over a SCSI SCSI

Generally called "OLE controls" or "OLE custom controls," they appear to the end user as just another part of  tool-kit. ISIS drivers are also available. For those requiring simple implementation, VisionShape's AutoScan batch scanning software is available.

For instance, storing a unique serial number on each copy of a software application disc would be considered CD publishing.  software such as LaserFiche. The CS-500 series provides us with a wider range of scanning products for these markets".

All CS-500 models are available immediately and can be ordered from VisionShape directly or through VisionShape's approved resellers. Quantity one pricing in the US for the CS-500 is $6,750. The 500-20 simplex unit starts at $6,000, and the 500-10 starts at $6,250. All include a one-year warranty.
