Vision Service Plan Selects ILOG to Enhance Claims Processing Flexibility; ILOG BRMS at Core of New VSP System to Process One Million Claims Each Month.

ILOG(R) (Nasdaq: ILOG; Euronext SICOVAM: 006673), the leading provider of enterprise-class software components, today announced that Vision Service Plan (VSP(R)), the largest provider of vision care insurance coverage in the United States, has selected ILOG JRules(TM) Business Rule Management System (BRMS) to make the management of its claims processing system more agile. VSP selected ILOG's BRMS to allow the company to react more quickly to both customers' needs and to changing business conditions -- by providing VSP claims processing agents, policy managers and other business users with the ability to make and maintain changes to the policies and processes that govern VSP's claims processing system.

VSP, recognized for its innovative use of technology, serves more than 36 million members nationwide, which means that more than one in 8 people in the United States rely on VSP for their vision care insurance. VSP receives approximately one million claims each month, primarily over the Internet.

ILOG JRules, which will be embedded in VSP's custom claims processing system, will power the validation of claims based on hundreds of constantly changing decision factors, including the nature of the claim, the type of policy, and complex regulatory requirements that vary from state to state. These business policies and best practices are represented by rules, which ILOG's BRMS renders in a business language familiar to VSP's business users.

This approach will enable VSP to extend responsibility for managing the claims processing system beyond the IT department by allowing VSP's business users to implement and maintain necessary changes to policies and processes. The will result in an improved system that dramatically reduces the bottlenecks that often delay updating of VSP's claims processing system, helping to make the company more responsive to customers.

"ILOG's BRMS provides the level of flexibility we need in order to quickly address changing business conditions and continue delivering the most effective customer service," said Kyle Kelt, director of information technology architecture at VSP. "ILOG's software will allow us to continue generating value from our legacy claims processing system, which is a critical factor in helping make business rules a core technology throughout our enterprise architecture."

ILOG's BRMS, which uniquely provides the capability to store and manage business rules centrally, meets VSP's innovative management directives, which mandate that the company centralize and store business rules across the entire enterprise, resulting in consolidated institutional knowledge of all of the company's practices. The centralization of business rules ensures that claims processing procedures are consistent across all product lines, resulting in greater accuracy of overall claims processing.

VSP's selection of ILOG JRules was also due to its scalability and ease of integration with the company's existing IT architecture, which includes IBM's WebSphere(R), and legacy systems.
