ILOG JRules, which will be embedded in VSP's custom claims processing system, will power the validation of claims based on hundreds of constantly changing decision factors, including the nature of the claim, the type of policy, and complex regulatory requirements that vary from state to state. These business policies and best practices are represented by rules, which ILOG's BRMS renders in a business language familiar to VSP's business users.
This approach will enable VSP to extend responsibility for managing the claims processing system beyond the IT department by allowing VSP's business users to implement and maintain necessary changes to policies and processes. The will result in an improved system that dramatically reduces the bottlenecks that often delay updating of VSP's claims processing system, helping to make the company more responsive to customers.
