VisiCom Awarded Subcontract for MAGTF Staff Training Program; Company Teamed with Cubic Applications Inc.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 1998--VisiCom announced it has received an initial letter contract to support simulation and wargaming operations for the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Staff Training Program (MSTP).

VisiCom will participate as a subcontractor on CAI's MAGRF Staff Training Program team. The CAI MAGTF Staff Training Program team will support operating forces at various sites in the application of simulation and wargaming for training and operations planning.

VisiCom is anticipating base year and additional four year follow-on options to the contract, which could bring the total contract value to an estimated $2 million over the next five years.

"Our experience over the last five years developing and supporting the Marine Corps' wargaming and simulation system led to the selection of VisiCom for this new effort," stated Scott Laidig, executive vice president of VisiCom's Simulation and Training division. "Our highly experienced staff, together with successful implementation of the Marine Corps' system, provides the background and support capabilities necessary to take this simulation system even further. We look forward to working closely with Cubic to support a number of worldwide exercises over the next few years."

The MAGTF Staff Training Program serves as a training tool to provide high level training to component, Joint and Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) commanders and their staffs. Using an expanded application of modeling and simulation, MSTP's focus is on warfighting skills and the Marine Corps Planning Process, thereby improving the staff's capabilities to employ the MEF in a joint environment.

Extensive Wargaming and Simulation Experience

As part of the Staff Training Program, VisiCom will support the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Tactical Warfare Simulation (MTWS) system. MTWS is a flexible simulation system designed and maintained by VisiCom to exercise U.S. Marine Corps commanders and staff in realistic battle situations. VisiCom will provide staff support at the MAGTF Staff Training Program sites located in Quantico, Va., Camp Pendleton, Calif., and will also support efforts at other sites.

MTWS is a modern, flexible, comprehensive wargaming and training system which replicates all aspects of warfare, from strategic to low-level tactical operations. The system's software represents land, air and sea assets in a simulated theater of war. Users pass orders to a control group which inputs commands to the system, allowing the wargame participants to operate on their standard command and control systems. MTWS provides the software link to communicate with different simulation systems, binding them together for joint command post exercises to create a truly integrated conflict scenario. In addition to the software links to other simulation systems, MTWS feeds data about simulated units to command and control systems, providing the training audience with immediate, up-to-date information.

VisiCom has also developed the Joint Force System 2 wargaming and simulation system, which is based on MTWS and is marketed through VisiCom Europe Ltd. in the United Kingdom to the international defense arenas throughout Europe.
