World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets, has announced that conference content for the inaugural LinuxWorld([R]) OpenSolutions Summit[TM] will feature case studies, panels and technical sessions focusing specifically on virtualization, a key topic that has emerged in the Linux and open source industry. The OpenSolutions Summit, scheduled to take place February 14-15, 2007, at the New York Marriott Marquis New York Marriott Marquis Times Square at 1531-1549 Broadway opened in 1985 and was designed by architect John Portman. It is located in the heart of Times Square at Broadway and 45th Street. , is a unique conference that provides attendees with the opportunity to learn from open source deployment experiences of their peers.

Highlighting the virtualization track are two real-world case studies that will be presented by executives at Nationwide Insurance and Solvay. Steve Womer, Sr. IT Architect at Nationwide Insurance will present "Shared Penguins: How To Have Hundreds Of Virtual Servers With A Shared Root." Nationwide recently implemented a shared file system in their Linux environment, allowing them to share the Linux binaries among several hundred servers and reducing disk requirements by 57%. This session will discuss their approach and the advantages and disadvantages of employing such a system.

"Companies are increasingly turning to virtual environments because they reduce hardware and software costs, improve performance or scalability, and reduce or eliminate unplanned downtime," said Womer. "Our virtualization success will serve as a great example for other companies considering similar migrations."

Bruce McMillan, Manager of Emerging Technologies at Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc., will present his case study entitled "Living In A Virtual World." During his address, McMillan will describe Solvay's server consolidation project and discuss topics relative to his experience including needs analysis, proof of concept, design and testing, implementation, cost savings and lessons learned.

"We are particularly excited about the case study presentations because they will provide attendees with real examples of open source virtualization deployments in innovative companies," said Melinda Kendall, vice president, LinuxWorld. "Hearing the facts straight from the people who have already been there is the most trusted way of receiving information. Learning what worked, what didn't, what obstacles were faced and how they were overcome will make the transition that much easier for other organizations considering an open source virtualization deployment."

In addition to these case studies, the conference will feature the following panels and sessions focusing on virtualization:

* "Virtualization and the Next Generation Data Center," with moderator Mark Grandinetti, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Virtual Iron Software, and panelists including executives from IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company.
