River, east-central U.S. Rising in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, it is about 287 mi (462 km) long. It flows southeast through the District of Columbia into Chesapeake Bay. It is navigable by large vessels to Washington, D.C. and Aquia Creek Aquia Creek is a tributary of the tidal segment of the Potomac River located in Northern Virginia. The creek's headwaters lies in southeastern Fauquier County and it empties into the Potomac at Brent Point in Stafford County, 45 miles south of Washington, D.C.. riverfronts that will be turned into parkland. The land was purchased for $6.1 million with the assistance of the Trust for Public Land. The property, known as Widewater, located 40 miles south of Washington, D.C., will be managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. Officials at Virginia Governor Mark Warner's office say that the park will undergo a 25-year process, beginning with the formation of a master plan. |
