Virginia Waring International Piano Competition.


The 15th Virginia Waring international Piano Competition (formerly the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition) will take place January 10-February 5, 2005, at the College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California Palm Desert is a city in Riverside County, California, in the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs area), approximately 11 miles east of Palm Springs. The population was 41,155 at the 2000 census. .

The competition categories will include Junior, through age 12, January 10-14; Intermediate, ages 13-17, January 10-15; and Senior, ages 18-35 January 17-February 5. The age requirement is governed by age as of the first day of each competition.

For the Junior Solo Competition, the First Prize is a recital with the "Music at Snowmass Chapel ... Concerts for the Community" Series at Snowmass Village, Colorado For other places with the same name, see Snowmass (disambiguation).

The Concerto Competition First Prize winner receives a concerto performance with the Lamont Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Lawrence Golan, at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music in Denver While Denver may not be as recognized for historical musical prominence like such cities as Los Angeles, Detroit, or New York City, it still manages to have a very active popular, jazz, and classical music scene, which has nurtured many artists and genres to regional, national, and even , Colorado, May 26, 2005.

. The Krenek Competition winner will receive a performance in Bosendorfersaal, Vienna, Austria. The Orchestral Competition will include semi-finals and finals with the International Chamber Ensemble of Rome. The First Prize winner will receive two performances with the International Chamber Ensemble of Rome and a solo recital on the International Chamber Ensemble's annual concert in Rome, Italy.

Additional performance prizes will be awarded. Winners may be chosen from any competition.

The deadline for applications for the Intermediate level is April 1, 2004, for the Junior level is July 1, 2004, and for the Senior level is April 1, 2004.
