Columbia is the county seat of Richland County, but a small portion of the city extends into Lexington County.  have been honored for outstanding efforts in the private sector to develop the local and regional economy.

Science Applications International Corporation in Oak Ridge, Tennessee Oak Ridge is an incorporated city in Anderson and Roane Counties in East Tennessee, about 25 miles northwest of Knoxville. Oak Ridge's population was 27,387 people at the 2000 census.  has been awarded an Honorable Mention.

Rossello will present the awards at the SGPB Board meeting that will be held September 14, 1999 in Memphis during the Southern Governors' Association Southern Governors' Association (SGA) was founded in 1934, and is the oldest and historically the largest of the USA's regional governors' associations. Since its first meeting 70 years ago to discuss the repeal of discriminatory rates for transporting goods by rail, the Southern  annual conference. "These companies are not only dedicated to providing their employees with an opportunity to grow personally and professionally, but they also routinely give back to their communities and stimulate their respective local and regional economies. The SGPB Governor's Cup Awards were instituted in 1991. There are three categories based on the number of employees. Nominations for each category are submitted by the Governors of each SGPB state. The entrees are judged based on innovative business practices, the company's economic environment, employee involvement in company activities, and the company's impact on the community, relative to its size.

Trident Tool, Inc. will be honored in the category for companies with 50 or fewer employees. The company manufactures and distributes carbide rock drilling bits, equipment and products for well drilling and other rock drilling applications.

Euro-Composites(R) Corporation was selected in the category for companies with 51 - 500 employees. Euro-Composites manufactures advanced lightweight composite honeycomb products for aerospace and related applications.

The SGPB is a nonprofit research organization supported by public and private funds. It focuses on public policy and economic development issues relating to technology, international trade, minority economic development, public service, economic education, and workforce development among others. The Board consists of the Governors, and legislative and business representatives from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Associate members representing the private sector, local governments, educational institutions and other nonprofit organizations also contribute to the Board's work.
