Vila's DUMBO project.

Bob Vila Robert J. "Bob" Vila (born June 20, 1946) is an American home improvement television show host known for This Old House (1979–1989), Bob Vila's Home Again (1990–2005) and Bob Vila (2005–2007).  completed refurnishing an abandoned factory at 85 Water St. in DUMBO. The project is featured in season 14 of Mr. Vila's show Bob Vila's Home Again, which is airing currently.

Built as a residence in the mid-19th century, the four-story brick building has stood empty since the 1950s. It now houses three apartments and a storefront. The building is currently zoned for commercial use only, so the apartments will remain empty until approval is received. The ground floor storefront will most likely house a bakery.

The televised portion of the rebuilding included laying hardwood floors, installing windows and re-facing the facade. Three DUMBO architects, Brendan Coburn, Jared Della Valle and John Fifield, each designed a floor of the building. Jack Beyer, of Beyer Blinder Belle architects, supervised facade work. Vila's son Christopher, a real estate developer, joined him on this project.
