SAN DIEGO -- World-Renowned Physician Predicts 3D Visualization the Future of Minimally-Invasive Surgery

When asked to forecast the future role of minimally-invasive surgery in the operating room, Dr. Camran Nezhat, the pioneering figure in minimally-invasive laparoscopic surgery said, "Fifteen years ago, I made a prediction about the future of laparoscopy. I believed then, that within two decades, most surgeries would be performed minimally invasively. The limiting factors to this prediction are skill and experience of the surgeon and the availability of proper instrumentation. Dr. Nezhat, a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility sub-specialist, has recently joined the Medical Advisory Board of Viking Systems, Inc. This cooperative exchange will allow surgeons to benefit from each other's experience in order to optimize laparoscopic methods in a 3D environment.

Dr. Nezhat currently uses Viking's EndoSite 3Di Digital Vision System in the operating room, and has been sharing his expertise with students and visiting surgeons to illuminate the clinical value of 3D visualization. In addition, Dr. Nezhat and Viking Systems have planned a series of clinical studies aimed at highlighting the benefits of laparoscopic surgery training in 3D, the increased level of efficiency and safety gained through the use of 3D, and how 3D visualization alleviates difficulties traditionally encountered in complex procedures.

Dr. Camran Nezhat is a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility sub-specialist who has been practicing medicine for over twenty years.
