Vignette's Industry Leading Open Application Platform

Vignette Corp. (Nasdaq:VIGN VIGN Vignette Corporation (stock abbreviation, AMEX) ), the leading supplier of e-business applications, today announced that it is shipping a new version of the Vignette(R)V/5 E-Business Application Platform(tm) which provides support for the Java(tm)2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) A platform from Sun for building distributed enterprise applications. J2EE services are performed in the middle tier between the user's machine and the enterprise's databases and legacy information systems. (tm)).

With the new release, Vignette now provides the industry's most open, comprehensive suite of e-business applications, which have been selected by leading companies such as AT&T Corp., New York Life Insurance Company The New York Life Insurance Company (NYLIC) is the largest mutual life-insurance company in the United States, and one of the largest life insurers in the world.[3] , Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. and Rational Software Corp.

Vignette's new version of V/5 is the only shipping suite of e-business applications for content management, personalization, analytics and wireless capabilities available to companies that have standardized on the J2EE platform.

By providing support for the J2EE platform, Vignette is enabling its customers to further decrease the cost, risk and time associated with developing e-business Web sites. Vignette's new applications also provide customers with cross-platform capabilities and access to more than 2 million corporate information technology (IT) developers trained on Java technologies.
