Viewlogic Signs Multi-Year OEM Agreements with Lattice Semiconductor and Lucent Technologies.

MARLBORO Marlboro or Marlborough (märl`bərō), city (1990 pop. 31,813), Middlesex co., E Mass.; settled on the site of a Native American village 1657, inc. as a city 1890. , Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1998--

Strengthens Viewlogic's Leadership in FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market.  and CPLD (Complex PLD) A programmable logic device that is made up of several simple PLDs (SPLDs) with a programmable switching matrix in between the logic blocks. CPLDs typically use EEPROM, flash memory or SRAM to hold the logic design interconnections. See PLD and SPLD.  Design Solutions

Viewlogic Systems, Inc., the leader of integrated e-product design software, today announced two new OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  agreements for its Workview Office(R) product line. Lattice Semiconductor Corp. and Lucent Technologies Inc. have committed to multi-year distribution agreements with Viewlogic to resell the Workview Office 7.5 suite of design tools. Workview Office features a complete language-based design solution and includes IntelliFlow(tm), Viewlogic's fully automated FPGA design process manager.

"The continuing acceptance by key silicon vendors is a tremendous endorsement of Viewlogic's programmable solution," said Roland Mattison, vice president of product marketing at Viewlogic Systems. "These vendors' broad distribution of our programmable solution is important, since it strengthens Viewlogic's overall e-products business. The agreements also allow us to work together toward higher levels of integration not yet seen in this market."

Workview Office from Viewlogic delivers a tightly integrated set of tools for the design of FPGAs and CPLDs, including tools for schematic and graphical design entry; co-simulation of VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) A hardware description language (HDL) used to design electronic systems at the component, board and system level. VHDL allows models to be developed at a very high level of abstraction. , Verilog HDL (Hardware Description Language) A language used to describe the functions of an electronic circuit for documentation, simulation or logic synthesis (or all three). Although many proprietary HDLs have been developed, Verilog and VHDL are the major standards. , and schematics; graphical state-machine entry; and VHDL and Verilog synthesis with FPGA Express Lite from Synposys. Viewlogic's FPGA design solution is unique in its ability to target FPGAs and CPLDs using a combination of ViewDraw(R) schematics, VHDL, and Verilog in a fully automated environment with IntelliFlow. IntelliFlow provides an easy-to-use graphical interface from which users can drive all aspects of the FPGA design process from design entry through functional simulation, synthesis, layout, and timing verification. IntelliFlow reduces the learning curve and simplifies otherwise complex design flows.

"The Viewlogic solution fully supports our new SuperBIG(tm), SuperFAST(tm), and SuperWIDE(tm) device families," said Stan Kopec, vice president of corporate marketing at Lattice Semiconductor. "Our goals are the same, to take full advantage of our industry-leading silicon architecture's performance and density. That is why we have been working closely with Viewlogic and Synopsys to tightly integrate Viewlogic tools with our ispEXPERT Compiler(tm)."

"Lucent Technologies and Viewlogic have worked closely for over seven years to provide programmable logic design solutions," said Fred Koons, manager of FPGA Software Products at Lucent Technologies. "We are excited to renew our relationship and we look forward to offering FPGA Express Lite from Synopsys along with the Viewlogic Workview Office suite. These tools will be combined with ORCA Orca - Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, 1986. Similar to Modula-2, but with support for distributed programming using shared data objects, like Linda. A 'graph' data type removes the need for pointers. Version for the Amoeba OS, comes with Amoeba.  Foundry place and route software as Lucent's first bundled FPGA software product: the ORCA Foundry Designer Series. These industry-standard tools combine great quality-of-results at an outstanding price, below $500."

As a part of the OEM contract, Viewlogic will work with Lattice and Lucent to deliver a vendor design toolkit. This toolkit will include Workview Office 7.5 and each vendor's respective design software and libraries from a single CD and single installation. This CD also will include FPGA Express Lite (version 3.0), the latest release of FPGA Express from Synopsys. FPGA Express Lite includes support for Lucent's OR2A/T and OR3C/T C/T Common To
C/T Chief Technician (non-commissioned rank in HM Royal Air Force)
C/T Command Transmitter
C/T Carrier-to-Noise Temperature density ratio
devices and for Lattice's ispLSI devices, including the 1K, 2K, 3K, 6K, 8K families and the new 5K family.

"Over the past year, Synopsys has built upon Viewlogic's long-standing relationships with Lattice Semiconductor and Lucent Technologies to significantly improve synthesis support for their devices," said Tim Colleran, director of marketing, FPGA Products at Synopsys. "For example, we continue to work with Lucent and Viewlogic to refine support for the richly featured ORCA 3C family of FPGAs. Similarly, Synopsys and Viewlogic and Lattice have worked together on a weekly basis to provide support for Lattice's new SuperFAST, SuperBIG, and SuperWIDE CPLD families," he said.
