Under contract with the US Department of Defense, the Rand Corporation interviewed thousands of prisoners and defectors who had been associated with the Vietnamese National Liberation Front, the Viet Cong, between 1965 and 1968. Hunt (history, U. of Massachusetts-Boston) draws on 285 of these interviews conducted in the Mekong Delta province of My Tho to explore the realities of everyday life at the village level during successive struggles against the French, the Saigon puppet regime, and the US.
