Video retailers promote parental control, involvement. (Service Salute).


An educational program of the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA VSDA Video Software Dealers Association ), Encino, California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W). , that promotes parental control over access to mature entertainment is achieving its goal. A recent Federal Trade Commission study gave video stores the highest marks of any industry segment for controlling children's access to entertainment.

Sometimes called bailment, pledges are a form of security to assure that a person will repay a debt or perform an act under contract.

 and encourages parents to work with local video stores to control the types of programs their children may or may not rent or buy. The success of the program prompted the association to launch a new certification program for retailers that have implemented effective parental education programs called "Parents In Control." Businesses that provide written statements about their educational and enforcement policies can obtain annual certification on an individual storefront or chain-wide basis. To be eligible for certification, a business must

* post ratings information where customers can view it.

* train employees in rating systems.

* enforce a policy not to rent or sell to individuals under age 18 "NC-17" videos, "adults-only" videogames, or videos or videogames legally considered "harmful to minors."

* use a voluntary ratings enforcement program based on parental authorization The right or permission to use a system resource; the process of granting access. See access control.  (applies only to rental establishments).
