The award acknowledges a company's ability to bring truly innovative technologies to health care providers through a faster, more cost-effective process. Vidacare is the first manufacturer to win this award.

The Vidacare EZ-IO product system allows intraosseous (IO) access through the bone marrow cavity in patients suffering from an acute injury or illness. The EZ-IO product system is based on technology developed at the University of Texas in San Antonio, and provides a viable alternative to traditional intravenous (IV) access, which is often difficult to gain in patients whose veins have collapsed as a result of trauma or dehydration. When traditional vascular access is challenging or impossible, the EZ-IO product system enables emergency health professionals to drill inside the bone, providing for the rapid, secure and safe delivery of lifesaving drugs and fluids.
