Victor mine moves forward.


De Beers Canada Canada (kăn`ədə), independent nation (2001 pop. 30,007,094), 3,851,787 sq mi (9,976,128 sq km), N North America. Canada occupies all of North America N of the United States (and E of Alaska) except for Greenland and the French islands of  and Attawapiskat Attawapiskat (ăt'əwəpĭs`kăt), river, c.465 mi (750 km) long, flowing E from Attawapiskat Lake, N Ontario, Canada, then N and E into James Bay. The trading posts of Attawapiskat and Lansdowne House are on the river.  First Nation have reached an interim agreement, which paves the way for construction of winter roads to take place and preliminary mine development activities to get underway.

The agreement stipulates the First Nation will receive funding to hire a director of lands and resources and a project liaison Liaison may refer to:
  • Liaison (French), the pronunciation of a word-final consonant due to a following vowel sound in French
  • Liaison officer a military officer who coordinates different forces or national units usually at staff level
 officer, and also outlines the development of a training centre for the community for jobs created by the Victor Diamond Mine project.

The mine is slated for construction in 2006. De Beers plans to upgrade the winter road between Moosonee Moosonee (m`sənē), village, NE Ont., Canada, on the Moose River near James Bay. It is the northern terminus of the Ontario Northland RR and Ontario's only saltwater port.  and Attawapiskat to facilitate the transport of double-lined fuel tanks, steel for permanent tanks and fuel to the mine site.
