Vertical injection. (Equipment).

Applications of vertical injection molding machines for rubber belonging to the MVPI range are said to be expanding. Examples include two rubber-steel over-molding applications, including a cutting tool and a doctor blade destined for the mining and printing fields, respectively. In the first case, a problem had to be solved concerning the fragility of plastic pawls over-molded onto a steel wire housing diamond cutters for marble and granite. The second application replaced with a safer and automated procedure the glueing technique previously applied to fit a thin, long rubber profile onto a specific steel foil to obtain an ink-spreading tool for printing processes. Automatic production cells, based on the 180-ton vertical injection molding machines of the MVPI range were used to over-mold the rubber pawls onto the cutting steel wire. Special heating platens were designed for these very small parts to be over-molded in large quantities and onto more wires at the same time. In the doctor blade application, production cells featured 400-ton vertical MVPI machines equipped with specific molds featuring mechanisms that allow the over-molding area to be varied so as to obtain different versions of the application.
