Vertical extrusion.

The Yellow Jacket yellow jacket: see wasp.
yellow jacket

Any of 35–40 species (genus Dolichovespula or Vespula) of social wasps, principally of the Northern Hemisphere, named for the black bands on its yellow abdomen.
vertical extruder series is said to feature excellent balanced weight distribution to help prevent tipovers, which are said to be a major safety problem with vertical extruders. Typical vertical extruders with in-line gearboxes have all the weight of the mechanical section on one side of the post, according to the company. The motor is positioned on the opposite side of the extrusion processing section, which is said to result in a more balanced weight distribution. This design is also said to allow for the use of double reduction helical helical /hel·i·cal/ (hel´i-k'l) spiral (1).

hel·i·cal
adj.
1. Of or having the shape of a helix; spiral.

2. Having a shape approximating that of a helix.

worm-type gearboxes, which are typically found on direct drive vertical extruders. The helical gearbox is said to enable delivery of more power to the screw, less wasted energy converted into heat from friction, and therefore less abrasive gear wear than is found in worm drives, according to the company. These extruders process highly filled resins in co-extrusion applications, as well as rubber, silicone, thermoplastics, EVOH EVOH Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol Polymer (chemical industry) , PVC PVC: see polyvinyl chloride.
