Vertica Systems Names Former Oracle SVP Jerry Held as Chairman.


Appointment Unites Three Veteran Database-Industry Innovators to Direct "the Most Important Database Systems Breakthrough in Two Decades"

ANDOVER, Mass. -- The board of directors of Vertica Systems, Inc. (www.vertica.com), a software company co-founded by database research and technology pioneer Dr. Michael Stonebraker Michael Stonebraker is a computer scientist specializing in database research and development. His career covers, and helped create, the majority of the existing relational database market today.  and startup veteran Andy Palmer, today announced the appointment of database-industry veteran Jerry Held as chairman.

Dr. Held has more than 30 years of experience in building and managing enterprise software companies. He was formerly senior vice president of Oracle's Server Product Division, where he led a division of 1,500 people and helped the company grow from annual revenues of $1.5 billion to $6 billion.

Vertica has built a new, ultra-fast database management system for data warehouses, data marts A subset of a data warehouse for a single department or function. In a separate news release today, Vertica announced that the company has raised a total of $23.5 million in financing, with the recent completion of a $16.5-million Series B round.
