It is used by large carriers such as Sprint, Verizon and AT&T.  Summit came away from the conference agreeing that continued development of automation and integration solutions for operations support systems Operations Support Systems (also called Operational Support Systems or OSS) are computer systems used by telecommunications service providers. They also concluded that TMN architectures, principles and products are critical to the deployment of carrier-grade IP telecommunications infrastructures and evolving services. The role of Vertel as an industry leader in TMN solutions was evident by the frequent customer references to their successful TMN-based OSS deployments.

These messages, along with supporting data from numerous industry presentations, provided the core content for the three-day Summit, held Feb. 24-26 in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden , which focused on "Intelligent Network Management."

"Intelligent Management was a timely and relevant theme for this year's Summit," said Bruce Brown, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. 1999 Summit Attendance Reflects the New Landscape of Telecom

Network Management

This year's Summit attendees represent a significant cross section of industry leaders, including interexchange and local carriers; network operators; telecom equipment manufacturers; independent software vendors; management solutions providers; applications development tools providers; industry and financial analysts; and government. Total attendance, representing 23 countries, was nearly 500.

"The strong mix of industry sectors represented in this year's attendees is proof that these issues are of foremost importance," Brown added.

Evidence that the market believes TMN plays a role in managing public IP telecommunications was noted in the number of IP telecommunications management presentations and the very strong presence of convergent carriers and equipment manufacturers attending the Summit. Companies like Sprint ION, Cisco, Bay Networks, Advanced Fibre Communications, Pairgain Technologies, Williams Communications and the IP division of Northern Telecom were well represented.

There were also representatives from Level 3, ICG ICG
