(Nasdaq: VRSO), a provider of packet-based solutions, today announced it has been selected by Aksh Broadband Limited (ABL) and its consortium partners, which includes the Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) in India and InCable Net Limited, for the deployment of its next generation VoIP softswitch solution to support government, residential and enterprises throughout the State of AP. Upon completion, the deployment will be the largest VoIP broadband network in the world, targeting an estimated one million VoIP subscribers by the second quarter of 2008. The contract is valued at several million dollars for the initial deployment. E[acute accent]The Andhra Pradesh Broadband Project will focus on deploying Intranet, Internet and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to government, residential and enterprise customers throughout Andhra Pradesh (AP), India. The goal of the consortium is to deliver next generation technology to rural villages throughout the region and to propagate education to these areas at affordable pricing. E[acute accent]The AP Broadband project will offer high speed fiber backbone connectivity to 40,000 AP state government schools, educational institutes, hospitals and offices. In addition, the fiber backbone network will provide high-speed connectivity and bandwidth to service providers offering CATV, video on demand, video conferencing, distance education, telemedicine, and micro-banking. The network will run on an open platform, be service agnostic and will offer connectivity to multiple service providers, with each service provider paying for its usage. The services will be offered through a pre-paid model.
