Verso Launches IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Solution for Carriers; Verso Evolves Softswitch Technology to Offer Standards IMS-Based Architecture.

ATLANTA -- Verso Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSO), a global provider of next generation network solutions, announces today the evolution of the Clarent(R) platform to support and comply with IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The IMS solution will target wireline and wireless network operators who require converged next generation network (NGN) solutions.

The solution, which bridges wireline and wireless carrier operations, is a response to market demands for a converged platform for session-based applications over different access networks (DSL, Cable, Ethernet, Wireless and Mobile). IMS revolutionizes carrier offerings by providing control of high-value, real-time IP applications including video conferencing, messaging, multiplayer games and other multimedia services that increase customer loyalty and revenue.

Verso's IMS solution is a natural evolution of the existing softswitch platform, a distributed and layered network architecture. The IMS solution is based on SIP protocol and defines a centralized user profile database. Verso is evolving and enhancing the current functionality supported by a Verso network element to migrate to an IMS framework. In addition, greater market reach will be attained by selectively identifying and working with strategic technology partners in the network border and applications-server segment. The objective will be to offer a complete and integrated standards-compliant solution that is highly functional.

The Verso Clarent(R) distributed and layered architecture maps closely to IMS and will evolve to incorporate full IMS standards. The Verso IMS solution will include the enhanced C5CM (IMS equivalent to I/S-CSCF, BGCF, IWF, IBCF) the signaling gateway (IMS equivalent SGF) the C4CM (IMS Equivalent MGCF), the enhanced C5CM (IMS Equivalent MRFC), the universal gateway BHG2500 (IMS equivalent T-MGF), and the combination of I-Master and CCC (IMS equivalent to HSS/UPSF, SLF, Online and Offline charging).

Evolving to an IMS network creates the need for a flexible approach to pricing and billing of bundled services. Verso, building upon its experience and know how in real-time authentication and flexible rating, will enable carriers to deploy complex rating schemes with bundled service offerings to track and recover revenue as they embrace IMS.
