Vermont district finds recycling affordable.


The Chittenden (Vermont) Solid Waste District has reported that it neither saved nor spent extra money during a recent renovation project that focused on recycling recycling, the process of recovering and reusing waste products—from household use, manufacturing, agriculture, and business—and thereby reducing their burden on the environment.  construction material, according to according to

Throughout the winter, a contractor added four offices to the Solid Waste District's administration building, replaced the roof and updated the building's interior. The project cost about $170,000.

According to the report, as an experiment, the district instructed the contractor to sort and recycle as much as possible. The contractor recycled about 23 percent of what would usually be thrown away. The large amount of discarded dis·card
