With secure peak data transmission speeds of up to 2.4Mbps, Verizon Wireless' 1xEV-DO service will be faster than GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) The first high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that used the GSM technology. As an example, a 1MB e-mail attachment would take almost seven minutes to download via GPRS, one and a half minutes over an EDGE network, and just under 20 seconds over 1xEV-DO, 1xEV-DO subscribers will require a 1xEV-DO device to take advantage of the increased speeds.
