Verification and Test Trade Group Formed to Serve Semiconductor Companies; Six Founding Members Join Expert Services and Tools for Semiconductors Trade Group.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 2003

A new trade group has been formed whose members provide expert verification and test services and tools for semiconductor manufacturers and fabless semiconductor companies. The Expert Services and Tools for Semiconductors ("ESTS ESTS Estates (US Postal service standard street suffix)
ESTS European Society of Thoracic Surgeons
ESTS Electronic Systems Test Set
ESTS Elementary Student Talent Search
ESTS Energy Science and Technology Software
") organization today announced six founding member companies.

ESTS members focus on verification services, verification tools, test services and test tools, product engineering, design for test (DFT DFT - discrete Fourier transform ), DFT services and DFT tester solutions. These specialized services and tools are increasingly in demand, as a growing number of semiconductor manufacturers and fabless semiconductor companies are outsourcing many engineering services other than IP design.

The semiconductor outsourcing movement started many years ago with packaging. In the last few years, companies have gone fabless; meaning they have outsourced semiconductor wafer manufacturing. The next logical step in this trend is to outsource backend design activities, such as verification and test. With ESTS, semiconductor companies now have a single resource, www.ests.net, to access information on experts who can supplement their own engineering resources.

Founding members of ESTS include the following companies:

First Silicon Solutions (FS2)(R): A leader in providing debugging tools for system-on-chip applications, FS2 works with leading silicon IP vendors, system developers, EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board.  tool and embedded software Instructions that permanently reside in a ROM or flash memory chip. Embedded software may be immediately available to the CPU or, for faster execution, may be transferred to RAM first and then executed.  companies to provide solutions that make SoC design faster and easier.

Inovys: Offers Ocelot ocelot (äs`əlŏt', ō`sə–), medium-sized cat, Felis pardalis, of Central and South America. It is occasionally found as far N as Texas. The ocelot has a yellow-brown coat with black spots, rings, and stripes.  ATE (automatic test equipment) system solutions that evaluate engineering samples more quickly and at lower cost by focusing on IC's that incorporate DFT/BIST circuitry. The Ocelot desktop and kiosk testers were awarded "Best in Test 2003" by the editors of Test & Measurement World magazine.

Obsidian obsidian (ŏbsĭd`ēən), a volcanic glass, homogeneous in texture and having a low water content, with a vitreous luster and a conchoidal fracture.  Software: A provider of RAVEN(R) and RAVEN SE functional verification Functional verification, in electronic design automation, is the task of verifying that the logic design conforms to specification. In everyday terms, functional verification attempts to answer the question "Does this proposed design do what is intended?" This is a complex task,  tools for sophisticated processors. The patented technology provides not just an instruction stream generator, but its advanced controls and knowledge engine allows processor validation of multithreading Multitasking within a single program. It allows multiple streams of execution to take place concurrently within the same program, each stream processing a different transaction or message. , multiprocessing, parallel instructions, processor synchronization, cache coherency, and other functions. With RAVEN, a user writes a few hundred test templates and then allows the tool to generate the millions of tests required. Obsidian also provides experienced verification engineers on a contract basis.

SiliconAid Solutions: Provides expert consulting serves for all aspects of semiconductor design-for-test development and implementation. Staffed by experts with proven track records from major semiconductor manufacturers, SiliconAid's focused expertise provides resources where customers need them the most.

Test Spectrum: Serves the semiconductor industry by creating test software and hardware design solutions for the ATE market space. The company specializes in mixed-signal, RF (radio frequency) and high-end digital test solutions on all major ATE platforms. Test Spectrum's products and services are designed to support ATE test requirements, such as test solutions for new IC designs, product characterizations, and test program optimization. The company also provides turnkey test hardware including the design, fabrication fabrication (fab´rikā´shn),
