Venezuelan vocalist Irene Farrera will celebrate the release of her fourth CD, "Serenata Ser`e`na´ta

Recorded live in Venezuela, Farrera's latest spotlights several different regional music styles and includes four original tunes.

Based in Eugene, Farrera was born in Caracas and grew up with music all around her. Her previous releases ventured into Brazilian, Latin jazz Latin jazz is the general term given to music that combines rhythms from African and Latin American countries with jazz and classical harmonies from Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and United States.

The two main categories of Latin Jazz are Brazilian and Afro-Cuban.

The Motet returns to town for an 8:30 p.m. show today at the WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave.

Led by formerly Eugene-based percussionist Jans Ingber, the six-piece jazz-funk ensemble mixes New Orleans swamp, West African drums and Latin rhythms into a colorful mash. Son Melao will open the show.

The all-female quartet Misty River will celebrate the release of a new live album at 7:30 p.m. today at Sam Bond's Garage, 407 Blair Blvd.

"Live at the Backgate Stage," Misty River's second album, features 17 acoustic songs recorded in December 2001 at Artichoke artichoke, name for two different plants of the family Asteraceae (aster family), both having edible parts. The French, or globe, artichoke (Cynara scolymus  Music's Backgate Stage in Portland. The record showcases the quartet's warm mix of folk, country, Celtic and bluegrass bluegrass, any species of the large and widely distributed genus Poa, chiefly range and pasture grasses of economic importance in temperate and cool regions. In general, bluegrasses are perennial with fine-leaved foliage that is bluish green in some species.  with originals, traditionals and new versions of favorites by Gillian Welch, Lyle Lovett and others.

After the Misty River performance, at 11 p.m., local entertainer Ty Connor will host a variety show. The cover is $2.

Diablo's Downtown Lounge, 959 Pearl St., will host its St. Paddy's Day blowout a day early, on Saturday, with the Jolly Leprechaun leprechaun (lĕp`rəkŏn), Irish fairy represented as a tiny old man. Leprechauns are mischievous and elusive creatures, said to possess buried crocks of gold, the location of which they will reveal if forced.  Jam. The lineup features the Jeffersons, Bill Willie Blues, Dr. Theopolis and Papa's Soul Kitchen.

CDs, a dinner for two, tattoos, piercings and a bicycle are among the prizes to be given away. Show time is 9 p.m. Tickets are $9.

The Samurai Duck, 990 Oak St., also will have its St. Patrick's Day celebration on Saturday.

, the rock club formerly known as John Henry's, 136 E. 11th Ave., will be renamed John O'Henry's. On Sunday, the downtown dive will host a punk-rock St. Paddy's party.

On Sunday, Sam Bond's Garage will feature traditional Irish music with Hilary Jones

& Friends. Show time is 8:30 p.m. Cover is $3.

Matt Butler, former drummer for the band Jambay and a recent Eugene transplant, will be at Sam Bond's Garage at 9 p.m. Wednesday, opening for the band Grey Area. The cover is $3.

The Samurai Duck will host an evening of punk rock and metal on Wednesday. The lineup features the Virtuous Pagans, Dirty Sanchez and the Bastard Saints.

The show starts at 9 p.m. The cover is $3.

Guitar stunt man Keller Williams will be back in town Thursday for a 9 p.m. show at the Wild Duck Music Hall, celebrating the release of his latest album, "Laugh."

Williams' new record is more accessible and more melodic than his somewhat experimental previous CD, "Loop." The new album features Tye North of Leftover Salmon and Dave Watts from the Motet. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door.
