all owe Suzanne Vega a debt of thanks.

Vega paved the way for the female singer-songwriter boom of the 1990s. It could be that if "Luka," Vega's 1987 Top 5 hit, hadn't been the smash that it was, a whole lot of girls with guitars wouldn't have found success on the stages of Lilith Fair Lilith Fair was a concert tour and traveling music festival, founded by musician Sarah McLachlan, that consisted solely of female solo artists and female-led bands; it ran from 1997 to 1999.  and beyond.

While it's been several years since Vega released a CD of new music - the last one being 2001's "Songs in Red and Gray" - she has continued to write and perform. Her latest summer tour will bring her to Eugene on Saturday with another singer-songwriter, Grammy winner Marc Cohn.

Cohn, who released what allmusic.com called the best debut of 1990, "Marc Cohn," won a Grammy as best new artist. His breakthrough single, "Walking in Memphis," earned him raves and a ton of fans.

Saturday's showcase of singer-songwriters will be held at the McDonald Theatre, 1010 Willamette St. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are $28 in advance, available through all TicketsWest outlets. Day of show admission will be $30.
