Unlike the scanning tunneling microscope, which is also a scanning probe microscope, the AFM can be used on materials that do not conduct  and profiler semiconductor metrology tools during the recently completed second quarter of 2000.

These systems are scheduled to be shipped to major semiconductor customers in the U.S., Taiwan, Europe and Japan by the first quarter of 2001.

This strength was primarily driven by orders for our family of automated semiconductor tools. Semiconductor manufacturers are rapidly adopting the Vx Atomic Force Profiler and the Dimension 9000 as their tools of choice for 0.13 micron feature sizes and control of demanding Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP CMP (cytidine monophosphate): see cytosine.
