Veeco Co-Sponsors the First AFM BioMed Conference.

WOODBURY, N.Y. -- Veeco Instruments Inc. (Nasdaq: VECO VECO Vernier Engine Cut Off ) announced today that it will co-sponsor the first "AFM (Atomic Force Microscope) A device used to image materials at the atomic level. AFMs are used to solve processing and materials problems in electronics, telecom, biology and other high-tech industries.  BioMed Conference," to be held in Barcelona, Spain on April 19-21, 2007. This conference, the first of its kind, will be dedicated exclusively to life science applications, in order to investigate how atomic force microscopy (AFM) technology can solve relevant biological bottlenecks and provide innovative solutions for healthcare. The conference will link International academic and industrial experts in life sciences, being involved in AFM and related techniques in medical/biological studies. Abstracts for paper and poster presentations are now being accepted. Abstract and conference registration details are available at www.afmbiomed.org. The conference is also sponsored by Leica Microsystem, a leading supplier of high-resolution optic systems, and Telstar Instrumat.

Pierre Parot, Chairman of the AFM BioMed Conference organizing committee, commented, "We expect that this conference will be a unique forum for scientists to share their latest advances in using AFM and other microscopy techniques in life science applications. We expect that the conference, which will include oral presentations, poster sessions and discussion forums, will draw a worldwide attendance from leading bio medical universities and research centers."

The scientific committee includes the conference organizers: Pierre Parot and Jean-Luc Pellequer, CEA/DSV (Life Science division of the Atomic Energy Commission Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), former U.S. government commission created by the Atomic Energy Act of 1946 and charged with the development and control of the U.S. atomic energy program following World War II. ), France and Daniel Navajas, University of Barcelona The University of Barcelona (Catalan: Universitat de Barcelona, UB) is a public university located in the city of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
