) today announced the availability of its new VACMan(TM) (VASCO Access Control Manager) product line, a suite of products designed to centralize and manage security decisions in computer networks of all sizes.

The initial flagship product A primary product of a company, which is typically why the company was founded and/or what made it well known. For example, MS-DOS, Windows and the Microsoft Office suite have been flagship products of Microsoft. CorelDRAW is a flagship product of Corel Corporation.  in VASCO's server line, the VACMan/Server, powered by Shiva's advanced remote access protocol engine, began shipping in December 1996. The new products, available immediately, are the VACMan/Server Rel. 1.1, VACMan/Accountant Rel. 1.1, VACMan/TACACS Rel.1.0 and VACMan/Client NT Rel.1.0.

"The market is demanding a complete solution," stated John Haggard, President, VASCO Data Security, Inc. "Today, even simple computer networks have dozens of entry points, and the need to authenticate and control users has become a major business issue. For medium to large networks, the task of managing security decisions at each and every point of entry and at each platform poses an almost insurmountable challenge. This problem has been recognized by the computer community for years -- and we can now offer effective solutions."

Open standards Specifications for hardware and software that are developed by a standards organization or a consortium involved in supporting a standard. Available to the public for developing compliant products, open standards imply "open systems;" that an existing component in a system can be replaced  have developed that enable products providing network connections to pass security decisions to security servers using standard protocols such as RADIUS. The VACMan/Server, powered by Shiva's advanced remote access protocol engine, provides commercial grade support for industry standard protocols such as RADIUS, TACACS (Terminal Access Controller Access Control System) An access control protocol used to authenticate a user logging into the network. TACACS is a simple username/password system. , XTACACS See TACACS.  and TACACS+. An early user of VACMan/Server is Manitoba Telecom Systems, Inc. of Canada. According to John Berti, Manager, Information Security at Manitoba, "VACMan is something that we have wanted for a very long time. It makes good sense because it's an integrated system that allows us to manage and control access to a variety of critical systems using a single secure authorization methodology that easily integrates with all our applications."

The development of the VACMan product line represents a major breakthrough for VASCO's one-time password authentication products. "Before VACMan," Haggard said, "we had to custom integrate our AccessKey(TM) and Digipass(TM) products into each customer's application(s). Although we have been successful in partnering with many product developers to integrate our token products, the speed to market was slower than we anticipated. Now, this issue has been resolved. With the VACMan product line, our authentication tokens are instantly available in virtually all computer network environments. Because of our open architecture, we can integrate with any existing system in the industry - and now we are better prepared to meet industry demands quickly and effectively."
