Vantive Names Software Visionary Roger Sippl as Chairman of the Board, Adds PeopleSoft SVP Aneel Bhusri to Board of Directors.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 18, 1996--The Vantive Corp. (NASDAQ:VNTV) today announced the appointment of co-founder Roger Sippl, 41, to chairman of the board of directors, replacing Steven B. Goldsworthy, 47, co-founder and chief technology officer, who has retired to pursue personal interests.

The company also announced the addition of Aneel Bhusri, senior vice president of product strategy at enterprise application software leader PeopleSoft Inc. to Vantive's Board.

Roger Sippl is an accomplished software industry executive, and is the founder of Informix Software, Visigenic Software, as well as the SQL Access Group. He established Vantive with Goldsworthy in 1990 and has been an active board member ever since. Goldsworthy's responsibilities as CTO are being assumed by Garry Hallee, Vantive's newly appointed senior vice president of product development (see press release, "Vantive Appoints Hallee.")

Aneel Bhusri, senior vice president of product strategy at PeopleSoft Inc., oversees all strategy for PeopleSoft's product and technology offerings, key business initiatives and partnerships. He was also instrumental in the creation of a strategic joint development agreement between PeopleSoft and Vantive, which was recently announced at PeopleSoft's User Conference, Dec. 2, 1996, (see press release, "PeopleSoft and Vantive Sign Strategic Development and Marketing Agreement).

About Roger Sippl

Sippl has more than 16 years of senior operations, technology and chief executive experience working with industry-leading software companies. Most notably, in 1980, Sippl founded Informix Software Inc., one of the most successful database companies in the world today. Under his direction as CEO from 1980 to 1990, Informix pioneered SQL relational databases, 4GL application development tools, and OLTP database technology for the UNIX operating environment.

In 1990, he co-founded the The Vantive Corp., providing the company's initial financing and leveraging his experience to build a seasoned management team. About Aneel Bhusri

Aneel Bhusri joined PeopleSoft in 1993, and is responsible for developing and guiding all product strategy, including product planning across the company's market-leading financial, human resource, distribution and manufacturing product lines. He also directs and oversees business development in key strategic areas, such as new product development, vertical market initiatives and corporate expansion.

Most recently, he was responsible for developing PeopleSoft's innovative business strategy for entering the manufacturing market, the company's successful acquisition of Red Pepper Software, and for establishing PeopleSoft's new manufacturing business unit.

Prior to joining PeopleSoft, Bhusri was an associate at Norwest Venture Capital, where he identified new emerging software companies for investment. In addition, he spent several years in Morgan Stanley's Corporate Finance Dept., where he worked exclusively with the firm's high technology clients.

Bhusri holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University and a B.S./B.A. in Electrical Engineering/Economics for Brown University.
