Vantis Announces Synopsys FPGA/CPLD Synthesis Support for Its MACH and VF1 Families.

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1998-- Vantis, an AMD (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, www.amd.com) A major manufacturer of semiconductor devices including x86-compatible CPUs, embedded processors, flash memories, programmable logic devices and networking chips.  company, today announced the availability of synthesis support for its MACH CPLD (Complex PLD) A programmable logic device that is made up of several simple PLDs (SPLDs) with a programmable switching matrix in between the logic blocks. CPLDs typically use EEPROM, flash memory or SRAM to hold the logic design interconnections. See PLD and SPLD.  families and VF1 FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market.  Series with Synopsys' FPGA Express and FPGA Compiler II, version 3.0 FPGA/CPLD synthesis tools. Synopsys' recently announced version 3.0 supports the entire line of Vantis FPGAs and CPLDs with Vantis-specific design flows. These are the first available synthesis tools in production to offer support for the VF1 Series FPGAs. Through close cooperation, both Vantis and Synopsys have delivered a complete solution for Vantis designers that leverages Synopsys' advanced FPGA and CPLD synthesis solutions.

"Vantis' VF1 family brings to the market new and useful innovations which will benefit many designers. We are eager to see the impact of their efforts. This solution is an initial step to offer our mutual customers Vantis-specific synthesis flows with high quality results. We are giving customers the flexibility and features they need to design with Vantis devices, and we will continue to work to provide solutions to their various design challenges," said Tim Colleran, director of FPGA marketing for Synopsys.

"We are very pleased to have support for our existing MACH CPLDs and our new FPGA family, the VF1 Series. Synopsys has delivered complete design flow

solutions in both FPGA Express and FPGA Compiler II version 3.0 that provide our customers the tools necessary to achieve high quality of results. Vantis is looking forward to continued growth in our relationship with Synopsys over the coming year," stated Andy Robin Andy Robin is a writer and director who worked on NBC's Seinfeld for several seasons with collaborator Gregg Kavet, penning many episodes, including The Junior Mint, The Jimmy, and The Fatigues, which won the Writers Guild Award for Episodic Comedy. , vice president of marketing for Vantis.

Available on multiple hardware platforms Each hardware platform, or CPU family, has a unique machine language. All software presented to the computer for execution must be in the binary coded machine language of that CPU. Following is a list of the major hardware platforms in existence today. , FPGA Express and FPGA Compiler II include a host of features designed to enhance the synthesis flow for designers targeting Vantis devices. This includes: the latest Vantis part, package, and speed grade options, full library support for combinatorial and sequential elements, LPM (Lines Per Minute) The number of lines a printer can print or a scanner can scan in a minute.

Designers can combine these capabilities with powerful new features in version 3.0 like Vista schematic analysis tools for viewing pre-optimized and mapped designs. Also the new FPGA Scripting Tool allows tight integration with place and route tools like DesignDirect. Taken altogether, designers now have an array of features to quickly and efficiently achieve high-performance designs when targeting Vantis devices. FPGA Express and FPGA Compiler II version 3.0 with Vantis support are both available immediately.
