Vane Vest.


Former San Francisco Ballet San Francisco Ballet, or SFB, is a San Francisco, USA based ballet company, founded in 1933 as part of San Francisco Opera Ballet. The company is currently based in the War Memorial Opera House, where it is directed by Helgi Tomasson.  principal dancer Vane Vest died at age 53 on January 8, 2003, from complications from an intestinal disorder.

 in 1968 to dance with American Ballet Theatre American Ballet Theatre, one of the foremost international dance companies of the 20th cent. It was founded in 1937 as the Mordkin Ballet and reorganized as the Ballet Theatre in 1940 under the direction of Lucia Chase and Rich Pleasant. , where Alvin Alley and Eliot Feld, among others, set roles on hint in The River and Theatre, respectively. A tall, handsome dancer with dramatic as well as technical abilities, Vest joined San Francisco Ballet in 1972, where he premiered leading roles in ballets by Lew Christensen (Airs de Ballet, Beauty and the Beast Beauty and the Beast is a traditional fairy tale (type 425C -- search for a lost husband -- in the Aarne-Thompson classification). The first published version of the fairy tale was a meandering rendition by Madame Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, published in , Scarlatti Portfolio), Michael Smuin (Songs of Mahler, Eternal Idol), Val Caniparoli, and Betsy Erickson. He is also remembered for his interpretations of Christensen classics (the Rich Boy in Filling Station and the Clown in Jinx) and in Balanchine repertoire (La Sonnambula, The Four Temperaments, Concerto Barocco, and Serenade). In later years Vest excelled in character roles such as Drosselmeyer in SFB's animal Nutcracker and Widow Simone in La Fille real gardee.

Vest retired from dancing when he left SFB in 1985. He is survived by his wife, Linda Vest of Rancho Cordova, California Rancho Cordova is a city in Sacramento County, California, USA, that incorporated in 2003. The State of California estimates its population at 59,056 as of January 1, 2007 [1] History , and two children, Peter and Haley, from an earlier marriage to SFB dancer Elizabeth Tienken.
