The company is currently based in the War Memorial Opera House, where it is directed by Helgi Tomasson. principal dancer Vane Vest died at age 53 on January 8, 2003, from complications from an intestinal disorder. Born in Vienna, Austria, Vest spent his early childhood and training in Colorado before moving to New York City New York City: see New York, city. In later years Vest excelled in character roles such as Drosselmeyer in SFB's animal Nutcracker and Widow Simone in La Fille real gardee. Vest retired from dancing when he left SFB in 1985.
