Vancouver Sun: kill more babies.

Vancouver -- The Vancouver Sun newspaper--part of the Asper family's CanWest media conglomerate and not part of Sun Media--published a lengthy, abortion-promoting article in its March 15, 2007 edition: "Rural women still face abortion hurdles." Coming in the wake of census figures showing that only immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. Motives for immigration, like those for migration generally, are often economic, although religious or political factors may be very important.  is propping up Canada's dismal dis·mal

 of pressing health needs.

Typically enough, the article quoted exclusively from pro-abortionists, such as Joyce Arthur of the 200-member B.C. Pro-Choice Network. Dragging up a ten-year-old incident, the article recalled the violent attack upon B.C. abortionist abortionist /abor·tion·ist/ (ah-bor´shun-ist) one who performs abortions.  Garson Romalis by an American gunman, apparently in the hope of discrediting Canada's pro-life advocates as "prone to violent conduct." In November 2006 the same Sun totally ignored the National Pro-Life Conference in Vancouver which attracted hundreds of people from across the country.

E-mails of concern sent to reporter Glenn Bohn, as well as management at the Sun and CanWest, were not answered. Campaign Life Coalition B.C. president John Hof said he had a 20-minute telephone conversation with Bohn after the abortion article was published, but the talk did not leave him assured that the Sun would be any more just in any future coverage of the abortion issue.

On a more positive note, Canadian pro-life advocates and social conservatives see evidence that the readership and viewership view·er·ship

of the mainstream media is diminishing, in favour of alternative news sites, blogs and other sources, many of them conservative in orientation. Industry group Newspaper Audience Databank Inc., for example, reports that 51 percent of Canadians now read a daily newspaper, down from 60 percent in 2000 (Tor. Star, Mar. 24, 2007).
