To be included in the list, companies had to be engaged in technology
design, development, manufacture or marketing, have revenues of more
than $1 million in 2005 and have facilities in the San Fernando,
Conejo, Simi or Santa Clarita valleys. The San Fernando Valley
Business Journal publishes a separate list of telecommunication
companies (Jan. 2, 2006) and medical device companies (Jan. 16, 2006).
Neither Vitesse Semiconductor Inc. nor Interlink Electronics could be
included in the list because the companies were in the process of
restating 2005 revenues as of presstime.
Tekelec, which ranked No. 4 in the Business Journal's technology list
for 2005, was not included due to relocation of its facilities to
North Carolina. Advanced Photonix has announced plans to relocate to
Ann Arbor, Mich., and 3D Systems has announced plans to relocate to
Rock Hill, S.C., but the companies resided in the Valley area in 2005.
(1) Formerly Homestore
(2) U.S only, does not include international facilities.
