Validity's new smaller-footprint VFS161 sensor, with its ultra-flexible z-height, easily integrates into PC market devices such as consumer and enterprise notebooks and peripherals. Users can easily swipe their finger over an extremely durable plastic surface for password replacement, authentication, identification, securing important data and more. The VFS161 maintains the durability, thinness and flexibility advantages of Validity's VFS131 sensor while providing a high-security 12mm wide image at 508 DPI (Dots Per Inch) The measurement of the resolution of display and printing systems. A typical CRT screen provides 96 dpi, which provides 9,216 dots per square inch (96x96). Flat panel displays from 110 to 200 dpi have also been developed.  with true 8 bits of grayscale In computing, a grayscale or greyscale digital image is an image in which the value of each pixel is a single sample. Displayed images of this sort are typically composed of shades of gray, varying from black at the weakest intensity to white at the strongest, though in . The sensor also offers optional support for fingerprint template storage via flash, a security feature that keeps users' fingerprint data off of the PC hard drive.

The product uses Validity's patented LiveFlex(TM) Technology to read deep into the living tissue of a finger through a robust flexible plastic film. LiveFlex(TM) provides superior resistance to impact, abrasion, household liquids and chemicals, and ESD (1) (Electronic Software Distribution) Distributing new software and upgrades via the network rather than individual installations on each machine. See ESL. .

"The smaller size of the VFS161 allows it to fit nicely between the buttons of a touchpad A stationary pointing device that provides a small, flat surface that you slide your finger over using the same movements as you would a mouse. You can tap on the pad's surface as an alternate to pressing one of the touchpad keys. See mouse, trackball and pointing stick. ," noted Jalil Shaikh, chief executive officer at Validity. "The durability and size of the VFS161 provides a viable solution for an exposed biometric sensor on a USB flash drive See USB drive. ."

The VFS161 sensor is available for evaluation today. Reference designs and software developments kits are also available for the development of Validity fingerprint sensor solutions.
