Va. Tech upends No. 5 Duke 69-67 in OT

Jamon Gordon's basket with 31 seconds left in overtime gave Virginia Tech the lead, and Deron Washington blocked Greg Paulus' 3-point shot as time expired to give the Hokies a 69-67 victory over No. 5 Duke on Saturday.

The Hokies (11-4, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) trailed 67-66 when they called a timeout with 43 seconds remaining. They worked the ball to Gordon, who drove to the basket and floated a shot over the Duke defense for a 68-67 lead.

David McClure missed an 18-footer on Duke's next possession, and the Blue Devils (13-2, 0-1) were forced to foul A.D. Vassallo with 7.5 seconds left. He made the first free throw, but missed the second.

Washington blocked Paulus' shot at the buzzer, sealing the Hokies' biggest win in years and giving them redemption for their last-second defeat last season at Cameron Indoor Stadium when Sean Dockery hit a 40-footer at the buzzer.

Zabian Dowdell led the Hokies with 20 points.
