VYVX FORMS ALLIANCE WITH STENTOR TO PROVIDE FIRST CROSS BORDER FIBER-OPTIC TELEVISION TRANSMISSION SERVICE

 Agreement To Improve Television
 Transmission Services In North America
TULSA, Okla., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Vyvx, Inc., the nationwide television services affiliate of WilTel, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Stentor, the alliance of Canada's nine major telephone companies, to establish the first, seamless, cross- border fiber-optic television transmission system to serve the United States and Canada.
The new system will provide one-stop shopping for occasional television services between Canada and the United States to news organizations, sports rights holders, cable companies and businesses tween one point in Canada or the United States to another serving point across the border. Customers will also have the option of using one-way point-to-multipoint services. The service is not distance- sensitive.
The two companies will begin offering the service upon receipt of any required Canadian and U.S. regulatory approvals.
"This alliance changes the landscape of television transmission services in North America," said Del Bothof, Vyvx r?esident. "Both partners will benefit from this alliance because their customers will benefit. Vyvx customers gain access to eight key Canadian cities and Stentor customers gain access to 65 major U.S. sites."
Stentor will initially establish serving points in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. Border crossings will be created at Buffalo, New York, and Detroit, Michigan.
"Each company will be responsible for providing end-to-end service and billing to their customers," says Tony Lavia, Stentor managing director, network marketing.
Both Vyvx and Stentor will continue to offer domestic occasional television transmission services independently from this agreement.
Stentor, an alliance of Canada's major telephone companies, provides customers uniform leading-edge products and services and service excellence across Canada and internationally. The nine partners are: BC TEL, AGT Limited, SaskTel, Manitoba Telephone System, Bell Canada, NB Tel, Maritime Telephone & Telegraph, Island Telephone, and Newfoundland Telephone.
Vyvx is the first company to provide switched fiber-optic television transmission services to ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox, NBC and numerous other television and cable networks as well as production companies nationwide.
WilTel owns and operates one of only four nationwide fiber-optic networks in the United States and is the only nationwide fiber-optic network dedicated primarily to business communications services. The WilTel network has access to more than 30,000 system miles.
WilTel is one of The Williams Companies, Inc. (NYSE: WMB), a $5 billion corporation headquartered in Tulsa, Okla., that provides energy transportation and nationwide digital telecommunications. Williams is listed on the New York and Pacific stock exchanges (symbol WMB).
